ENUGU 2025: Building a Smarter Future – Lessons from the 59th NIS Annual General Meeting & Conference
In Partnership with BAAO CEC
The 59th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), held in Enugu State, was more than just a professional gathering it was a transformative experience, rich with learning, innovation, and networking opportunities that directly impact our work at BAAO CEC, a construction and engineering firm committed to intelligent infrastructure and progressive project delivery.
The first used Owerri as a case study, demonstrating how intelligent spatial planning transformed infrastructure delivery.
The second spoke about drones, AI, and traffic-monitoring software technologies that can revolutionize urban planning, logistics, and project tracking.
At BAAO CEC, we recognize that adopting such tools can reduce errors, improve safety, and accelerate building timelines. We are now more inspired than ever to integrate GIS tools, digital terrain modeling, and real-time field data into our construction workflow.
For BAAO CEC, it reinforces the importance of working with well-trained survey teams for pre-construction surveys, structural assessments, and urban intelligence gathering.
1. Geospatial Technology = Smarter Construction
Surveying tools like drones, laser scanning, and GIS now offer the accuracy and efficiency we need to build with confidence especially in complex environments.
2. Surveyors Are Our Allies
Collaborating with surveyors early in a project ensures smarter layouts, reduced rework, and cost savings.
3. Digital Transformation is Non-Negotiable
From elections to data processing, the NIS showcased what digital leadership looks like. This inspires us to digitize our internal reporting, site monitoring, and client communications.
4. Social Media Can Build Bridges
We saw how promoting our work online photos, maps, process stories can attract clients and build trust in our brand.
His story reminded us at BAAO CEC of the need for ethical leadership, intentional innovation, and people-first project execution.
Well-planned cityscape with excellent roads and smart homes
And not enough time to explore the city as much as we wanted!
With the next AGM date to be announced soon, we already look forward to another chance to connect, collaborate, and co-create solutions for Nigeria’s built future.
